The Emblem |
|
 |
|
The green and red emblem of Morcote, colours
representing hope and courage, has a sow with many nursing piglets in the lower green part
which are symbols of abundance and fertility, and originated from the Antoniani monks of
Vienne who established themselves in Morcote during medieval times and had the same
emblem. In the upper red part, a young shepherdess is illustrated sitting on a sheaf of
wheat in a field of flowers which is the symbol of the freedom acquired by the village
from the podestà and the lord of the castle. |
